Fans have more ways than ever to engage with their favorite properties—from movies and traditional TV to streaming, social, and beyond. Characters and entertainment brands remain key drivers for toy purchases. (Licensed toys account for 31% of the total toy market, according to Circana.)

As The U.S. Toy Association’s “Entertainment Update” for 2024 breaks down, the areas drawing fans’ interest are shifting, and toymakers are responding with new toys and games that appeal to every fandom.

“Last year was a powerhouse year for classic kids’ entertainment and toyetic content like the Barbie movie, but this year we’re seeing more toys inspired by new streaming content, gaming worlds, social media trends, and nostalgic brands for adults,” said Adrienne Appell, executive vice president of marketing communications at The Toy Association. “The key to a successful translation into toys for today’s fans, however, ultimately always comes back to being true to the characters and the storylines − no matter the property.”

Here are a few examples of licensed toys to watch for 2024:

The Ms Rachel Surprise Learning Box from Spin Master is a new developmental playset featuring four interactive learning environments: a life-the-flap opening, soft plush accessories, and a peek-a-boo scarf. The toy is inspired by Ms. Rachel's YouTube learning videos.

The Fisher-Price Imaginext Star Wars Darth Vader Bot is a two-foot-tall Darth Vader with lights, sounds, an extendable Lightsaber accessory, a Stormtrooper die-cast character key, and projectiles.

The Ollyball x Transformers with Glow-in-the-Dark Cyberglyphic Reveal features a color-ready Transformers design that glows in the dark. It also features Ollyball’s unique, patented Krunchcore construction for indoor play.

The Care Bears x Universal Monsters 9-inch Fun Size Plushies from Basic Fun! feature the iconic Care Bears dressed up as classic Universal Monsters like the Bride of Frankenstein, Frankenstein’s Monster, and Dracula.

Inspired by the new Wicked film, Hasbro’s Wickedthemed Monopoly invites players to explore Oz. It features a green-and-gold board with properties like Elphaba and Glinda’s Dorm Room, Shiz University, and the Wizard’s Throne Room and golden tokens inspired by the story.
